Ron and Sarah’s New York exhibition experience!
Next Page

What a city!  I had never been to New York City until this wonderful opportunity to exhibit at the Amsterdam Whitney International Fine Art Gallery located in the prestigious Chelsea Art District.

In 2008 I was selected to be published in New Art International, which is a world wide artist publication released through Barnes and Noble.  The publisher is located in Woodstock, NY so the local NY art galleries review this publication often.  In March of 2008 the executive director for the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery, Ruthie Tucker, reviewed this publication and after browsing my website she solicited my work for exhibit.

After months of preparation, planning and fundraising I finally traveled to NY for my first 3-piece exhibition in January 2009.  The following images and commentary are in the order of events that my wife and I experienced in the city that truly never sleeps.

The following photos aren’t really clear but were taken as we began our descent into JFK airport.

Arrival of the Great Green Garment Bag

Once we landed at JFK our adventure began…and it began in true Ron and Sarah fashion.  The passengers on our flight are all standing around the baggage claim area anxious to grab their luggage and get moving.  We waited about 15 minutes before the conveyor belt started to move.  Out pops 5 bags from behind the plastic curtain and amazingly the first one is ours.  Fantastic!  What service for sure.  Now we just need our green garment bag and we’re off to the city.  Within a few seconds all five bags had found their owners, but no other bags were coming to meet everyone.  After another 10 minutes of empty conveyor belt movement the whole system stopped and a red light started to flash.  People of all cultures and professions started to get impatient and curious and a few got upset.  A couple gentlemen climbed onto the beltway and peered through the baggage entry, but they couldn’t see anything due to a curve in the system.  Then the announcement came:

“Attention all passengers waiting for luggage from track #2.  We have a slight luggage jam in the system and we are working diligently to fix the situation.  Please be patient and the system will be operational momentarily.”

Sarah and I saw a couple businessmen get pretty pissed off at this point.  One of them was definitely on a tight schedule, checking his watch and making cell phone calls every 2 minutes in seemed.  I joked to Sarah, “Watch it be our bag that’s clogging the system since our other bag was the first one out of the little door.”
