Twisted Prescription

ARTIST'S DESCRIPTION OF PIECE

Twisted Prescription is the 3rd creation in a series titled “Corporate DNA”.
My first two prescription bottle sculptures were designed for an entry into the Sixth
Street Gallery showcase titled “Ill”.

 

“Corporate DNA”

Erratic                                     Controlled

Seems like such a basic word, “Ill”, yet it can say and mean so much. My 1st sculpture “Erratic” is my interpretation of healing “Ill” with a prescription. The different aspects of a prescription I learned from my childhood experience with Ritalin and my relationship to chiropractic adjustments as an adult.

“Erratic” best represents a behavior…less than stellar. The core to the mind being all twisted as in a subluxation.

Now my 2nd sculpture in the Corporate DNA series was totally the opposite. “Controlled” has a core that is straight, like a spinal column should be. My thoughts are now separated and more clear and defined. Also the symmetrical spiral definition truly came together in this piece.

So that’s why my newest addition to Corporate DNA, “Twisted Prescription”, is just a larger version of “Controlled”. I’ve told myself millions of times in my life to “Stay in Control!”… So I did.

There are over 1500 separate parts within the entire creation. The sculpture will be suspended at 30 feet from a 2-amp rotating motor hanging from chain. The bottom of the sculpture will have a clearance of 8ft from the floor. This is so the viewer can gaze at the moving spiral mass from bottom to top as is spins.

I divided the parts into the Core and it’s Extensions.

For the Core I used 16ft. of threaded ¼ inch bar, lock nuts, washers, hanging eyehook, and connecter nuts. I used the clear bottles for the initial link to the Extensions.

I first drilled holes in the sides and ends of all the bottles.

I then placed the bottles symmetrically onto the threaded Core.

The Core is assembled in 3 parts totaling 16ft. These strands will be connected to each other using Connector Nuts.
Sorry this is not the clearest of photos. The Extensions are made of over 700 plastic prescription bottles, caps, and screws. Each Extension is attached to the cap for the Clear bottles along the Core for easy installation.
