By overlapping the spheres I was able to retrieve a serious insight into the world of Op Art.
Op Art: "Optical Art is a method of painting concerning the interaction between illusion and picture plane, between understanding and seeing." Op art works are abstract, with many of the better known pieces made in only black and white. When the viewer looks at them, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively, of swelling or warping.
The image to the right is a section of this drawings border. This little snap-shot of the edge consists of 17 complete circles. My relationship to creating Op Art is definitely a work in progress. I think I have yet to create a true artwork on an “Illusionary” level, although some have said they see movement and vibration in my works. The Op Art masters that I have studied, like Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely have given me the inspiration to explore more works of this type of imagery. |
